Description

This is a close view of the mound inside the circular walled/palisaded moat at Castelminio. The top is more or less a square of leveled dirt, with steep slopes. A probe found the remains of a brick building possibly dating the late Bronze Age. We don't know whether it was used later as 'fincara' or a 'roccolo' that is a mound where a small building was built and nets to snare birds put all around as a circular labyrinth. Inside the building they put cages full of singing birds to lure their mates to come. In general these traps were called 'roccolo' (plural roccoli) in general, and 'fincara' if they were specialized to snare finches. Fincara is the local term, related to the German fink, English finch. The guy climbing the mound is my friend Simon, the archaeologist. I also added a ghost building. Thanks for your kind comments.

Splendid capture yet again, Sandra. I was most excited to see the series continue, and hope there is more to come. I was especially intrigued to learn about how they were used as traps.

A very nice touch to sketch in the old brick building. Fantastic information and is that a stick fence around the base of the mound?
