Description

We have reached the end of my hike up through the gorge and now you see the beginning of the flow of water. This is Avalanche Falls which is only about 25 feet high but is a magnitude 25, class 1, horsetail shaped waterfall. The mist does not help the quality of the photos so I posted two views. The left was from below looking up and the right side is obviously a side view and I had almost reached the top of the falls at this point. In my research, I did find an amateur video, if you want to view the 7 or 8 minute hike up through the gorge and get a sense of the noise and water flow. You can tell by the waterfall at the end that they did not have the volume of water that we had so double the roar of the water in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ugtiw-JbxE Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Great capture and documentation Dana. Looking at your pictures one can pretty much feel the power of the fall and the roar!

I just got done viewing the video, and I am so impressed with how they are able to build a walkway like that along the falls, sure is beautiful, it reminds me a lot of the smoky mountain area which I live just 30 mins from. Oh and I loved the covered bridge. And nice photo of the falls it is really hard to get shots that are not blown out on the water, but you did pretty good.

If not for the dangers, I'd have loved to sit under the fall and let the water descend on me! Really envy you for the opportunities you have of coming face to face with so many of the pristine marvels of Nature. It's a shame in this respect how much damage we humans continue to visit upon the Natural world. Hope your work will enable more people to learn to appreciate Her a little more...
