The mantle of Wonder Woman was passed on to her as penance for the improper use of her influence as monarch of Themyscira - a misuse of power that had far-reaching complications and ultimately contributed to the death of her daughter, Diana. During her time as WW, Hippolyta travel back to the World War II Era and became a member of the Justice Society of America. Back in the future, she replaced Diana in the Justice League for a period of time.
