Description

Captured recently by my nephew, who lives and works in Japan, and postworked by yours truly, Harry. Shots apparently taken from either ends of the thoroughfare, probably with his DSLR camera. They go along with the downtown Tokyo intersection I posted two days ago. Notice the huge mirrored building in the top shot. Many store signs are vertical and in both English and Japanese. Not including the sidewalks, the street shown is narrower then one of our alleys. And can't overlook the American style manhole covers. Andrea would love the scene. Unfortunately, except for the locale, my nephew usually sends out his fotos without any details, right out of the camera without any photo editing, so I'm left to reduce them from their ponderous size, and to digifiddle the brightness and contrast. ---------------------- Shibuya is a special ward located in Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. As of 2008, it has an estimated population of 208,371 and a population density of 13,540 people per square km. The total area is 15.11 square kms. The name "Shibuya" is also used to refer to the shopping district which surrounds Shibuya Station, one of Tokyo's busiest railway stations. This area is known as one of the fashion centers of Japan, particularly for young people, and as a major nightlife area. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia. Sayonara.

Nicely rescued, Harry; looks like a lot of foot traffic in this area. What colourful signage! You did a great job "translating" these shots for us to share, well done!

All manhole covers are round. That's so they can't fall into the opening they cover.

That's where you're mistaken, compadre. Manholes in the UK are square.

I like the reflected building too, and the reflections in the letters 'ART' at the top left of the first picture. With the overload of colors and patterns and the many shiny surfaces, it looks like a reflection lover's paradise. I remember the narrow streets from 30 years ago when I was there. Though, thankfully, I didn't drive in Tokyo. Great shots and interesting information.
