Description

It started snowing yesterday morning & has been snowing off & on since then. This is a very similar view from my house that I posted almost a year ago, but with a few differences: Yesterday, I received my new camera in the mail & this is the first photo I took with it. It's a Panasonic Lumix FZ70. It's the third Lumix I've had, each one adding some significant improvements. I still have no desire to upgrade to a DSLR, as I don't need the added complexity, weight, lens interchangeability or cost & am willing to forgo the improved image quality, control & flexibility. My new camera improves over my previous model with a 60x optical zoom & the capability to shoot in RAW (which I did with this photo), as well as some other features. The other difference is that I just upgraded to Photoshop CC (I had previously been using Photoshop CS4, which was several years old) & used it for this photo. They currently have an offer for a year's subscription for $9.99 per month which I couldn't resist (expires tomorrow). Yes, I know the price will at least double in a year, but that's still about the price of a meal in a mid-priced restaurant once a month for the privilege of always having the latest version of the best photo software out there & that seems like a reasonable deal to me. I was impressed with the power of the controls Photoshop CC offers for processing RAW images. I also used the new (to me) Content Aware Move & Extend Tool to remove a couple of electrical wires in this photo & was impressed with how much faster & more effective it was than using the older tools I had. I look forward to exploring the other new features of my new camera & software in the next few weeks. Will my photography improve? Maybe, maybe not, but I expect to have some fun with my new toys... Please zoom.

Congratulations on the new toys...always fun learning new things. As for the photo above, it is very striking...sharp, crisp black and whites. Whatever you did in post processing, it all worked exceedingly well.

Oh my! How nice this is! You got terrific contrast and detail, and I can almost feel how cold it must be there. I just looked up the camera and enjoyed perusing the blah blah on the bells and whistles. You'll like it a lot, I think ... it's a very cool piece of gear!

A nice little skiff of snow making it look very nice. The Lumix is a good camera I always keep one in the Jeep as a backup camera and it performs very well. I have not yet figured out how to use content aware but I should get after that soon.

Great work. With a tool like that... you will improve. I lack the patience but my wife works wonders with it. :-)

congratulations on the new camera, and I'll say that with your eye and creative vision, you have a ton to bring to any camera, and I think most photographers would say that's first and foremost in the art. But---a new camera can be so nice, and can open new doors and make other things easier than before....This is a graphic treatment, almost with etching features. Fine contrasts of light and dark, and I like the opening from right to left into the open sky behind. Because of your high key work on the snow, you get swaths of grayish white to contrast the high detail in the darker portions (more fine contrast). A fine capture of snow and its effects on the environs. And the grayed snowflakes add a special air to it all. A very intelligent and intuitive treatment.

The best part of this site is the flexibility to do things your way and have fun while doing it! A nice photo and I liked the zoom also!
