Description

Another Desert Rats piece. The year is 1941, late January, the 8th Army will soon be facing the Desert Fox, & his Afrika Korps, Radio Belgrade is broadcasting to the German troops in Africa & soon Lili Marlene would be on the lips of both allied & axis soldiers. An attempt at closeup using M4. Fixed and textured the ammo boots, textured the web belt, the hose, puttees, gaiters & the shirt decals in order to add rank & unit insignia. Simple flat textures for the shirts & shorts. Still haven't had time to refit the webbing gear, that'll be the next step. The bombay bloomers came out OK but needed a lot of tweaking, & also tested out both types of shirts used, early pull over style & later full buttoned shirt. Setup in Poser , rendered in vue with heavy atmospheric perspective & a light dusting in PS. M4 with head morphs, my KD uniforms & webbing, Papus3D's Vickers Mk Vi laden with my props, & Panko's Enfield SMLE from In HM Service kit.

Fine work Luis and the dusty desert look adds to the hot dry atmosphere. All we need now is to see John Mills come bounding along in a K2 ambulance :)

Ice Cold In Alex, it never fails like the BoB movie, it's one of those 1950's & 60's classic WWII war movies. Thx Mike, I can just see the K2 coming over the hill ;-)

Thx Ed! Glad you like my effort at representing the RATs accurately. I could have the KD shorts, both shirts & the tank top with the headgear & the footwear, gaiters, puttees & hosiery ready soon, but the webbing still needs fitting. At this point I have only one weapon ready to go with the M4, my Bren Gun & the Vickers Mg for later, I don't know how accurate that would be a squad of bren gunners or MG squad, lots of fire power but not very accurate without a single rifle amongst them. I have a Lee Enfield No4 Rifle, but that would be out of place prior to 1942. I have Panko's HM gear, so I never felt the need to make a Lee Enfield SMLE or a Webley Revolver. I don't think how ever that people would buy the set without any weapons, so that means further delays to at least make an SMLE for the everyday soldier to go along with the Bren Gun or Vickers MG. As for the Bombay Bloomers, they are the more standard wear for the early part of the war whether it be North Africa or the Far East, India or Papua New Guinea. To have them really look the part they would need to have the thigh length of the short extended to below the knee & have them be even baggier then they are now. But that's the problem with the M4 rigging, the clothes have to be very tight & close fitting, for me a fault that ruins all the vender's hard work at making an accurate period uniform, other wise you get lots of spikes. A tight fit for the shirt is OK but the shorts & pants were always very baggy & ill fitting. Even in this render the Bloomers are too tight fitting for my taste, it was a compromise, and took lots of tweaking to have the bloomers look more or less natural, but look closely at the outer edges of the bloomers & you can see the beginnings of a slight distortion but if the knee bend had been more pronounced, the distortion would have been even more evident. So these going for sale would depend on what would be included with the set.

Just to point out, I'd buy this without weapons, I can't be the only one.
