The Great Blue Heron is a large wading bird, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North and Central America as well as the Caribbean and the Gal�¡pagos Islands. They are very common in south Florida but rarely seen in Europe. It is the largest North American heron, head to tail length of 36 to 54 inches (91 to 137 cm), a wingspan of 66 to 79 inches (167 to 201 cm), a height of 45 to 54 inches (115 to 138 cm) and a weight of 4.6 to 7.9 pounds (2.1 to 3.6 kg). These two photos were taken on the same day as my last two postings. The right photo was while s/he was walking the edge of the lake looking for fish and frogs.
