Description

We left El Paso, Texas, a couple of days ago and drove to Balmorhea State Park. I've always been told that West Texas is boring, something to be endured with gritted teeth. So far I'm not at all bored. What we've seen so far has been quite beautiful, with loads of variety. Maybe tomorrow I'll get bored ... :P I made a reservation to stay here for two days. After looking at the map and doing a bit of a Google-gander, we both thought we might only want to stay one night and move on. By the time we got to Balmorhea, though, we were thinking two nights might not be enough. It's so peaceful here, so quiet. The landscape and the views seep into your soul, and a few more days seems like just the thing. We're on our way to San Antonio though, and have some appointments we're excited to keep, so this place will have to go back on the list for "next time." Moonrise and sunset coincided both nights we were here, which gave the moon this beautiful golden glow against a pink-and-purple darkening sky. I took this picture from our campsite using the roof of the car as a brace. What an amazing view to have out one's window!

when I was in west Texas I dove the back roads to get to places. yes I got lost and ate at the best Mexican restaurant I ever ate at. I came across a grave yard that I wish to have gotten in and walked around. look like a lot of old graves but they had tumble weeds in there too that give it a class all by itself. I never was bored. but that the artist in you as you see the world alive around you that other people do not stop and look at. You and me and people like us see things no one else sees,

What Mike said. Perfect timing and composition. The moon looks like its sitting in the branches. Love the colors.

That's a stunning shot, Tara! What a wonderful full moon the last couple of mornings... I was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio - Jo and I were married at the base Chapel in '71. Some good memories of San-Antone... If your schedule allows, you really ought to head south the the Big Bend area - you will have a veritable banquet for your lenses...

A truly awesome, iconic shot. The color gradations in the sky are magnificent & that bright yellow moon really stands out. Photographic art of the highest order...

This is beautiful!! Never seen this color spectrum so great. And the silhouettes of the trees give something abstract.

Beautifully captured Tara. It looks cold though. I love West Texas, wide open spaces and never boring. Reminds me of Marty Robbins song 'El Paso', also the movie 'The Giants'. Are you going south to Fort Davis? Bill would like it! Ten years ago I helped a friend move to Georgia. We made it from Phoenix to Fort Stockton the first day in a Hertz Rental truck towing her private car. It was a long haul!

It's a good thing to be able to capture and immortalize moments like this forever ... something, that dreams are made of ... ;P (did you ever read: "The Moon 's a balloon" by David Niven ?) I have got a feeling Lucinda might be the lucky one, to get a surprise visit, right ? BB
