Description

Ok first, it turns out my 'flu' is actually an infection (and it's a doozy), so I was lucky to finish Harry's dedi 2 weeks ago...BUT! I revised this image I-don't-know how many times, trying to use subjects Harry does so well---ie, shadows, fences, leaves, etc (I even threw-in an old painted flower in honor of his beauteous flower-series)---but whoosh: Stuffing it into 512 KB??? Like fitting a size 8 stomach into a size 4 pants. So I had to remove some images, Harry; but at least you'll know my heart was in the right place... I spend half my time with a camera looking for "picturesque" shots---like sunrises over lakes or big beauteous mansions...which Harry shoots regularly, to be sure: His above-mentioned flower-series are an example (mysterious, lush, beauteous, sensuous): But he ALSO shoots a lot of other things, and they, for me, take "courage": Courage to see a leaf on a cracked sidewalk and know there's poetry in it, and being willing to spend the time finding it. Courage to stop for a decayed facade and knowing there's as much song in it as there is in a rose. (That's what artists are supposed to do, I think.) Or courage to see an abandoned shoe and grapple with the thing, visually, until he finds its song and humor and its genuine 'life'. It takes courage to 'talk' to and coax those images until they reveal their inner song: He tackles Seeing head-on, and never backs down. (And of course courage, because he's had a bad back but still twists himself into pretzels to get the best angles on everything: No subject is unfitting---the shot is there, and he's going to find it.) And through all this, his light just keeps getting lusher, his textures more symphonic and articulate; yet he still does those 90 year old veterans marching preciously in parade, or those cars---don't get me started on those cars: They're visual symphonies. Thank you, Harry, for shaking me out of my pre-set notions, for making me find the picture as much as let it 'find me'; and for showing, above all---and day after day---that truly open eyes, intense dedication and beauty can exist in the same artist. And I don't want to forget your always thoughtful comments, even when you're tired or with bad back: That's a great contribution as well. So I wish you tons more wild and joyous shots, and give a great bow to our "photographer's photographer," with the deepest respect and gratitude for all that you do here. Happy Birthday and many more, with the greatest health and joy your way, you deserve them all , Mark Harry's gallery is here. (Please see Full...)

Mark, first of all let me say what a marvelous birthday dedication this one is for Harry. You've taken so much of what you learned from him and put it on display today. As I scan through each image what stands out most are the cool colors as well as the reflections. The special effects really made for an out of this world experience. So sorry to hear that what you thought was the flu turned out to be a rather nasty infection, and please keep us updated on your condition as you are able. Keeping you in my prayers.

I love the theme here. The combinations, the light, the patterns ... all marvelous! It's hard not to pick favorites, but I can't help but do it. The first and fourth shots, all on their own, absolutely sing. Fabulous!

What Tara said, of course, as always!...if I had to choose I'd pick #4, but they're all truly lovely, and work so well together as a whole. It's perfect for Harry, and what you say about his talent is true--his work is subtly superb, and always worth looking at closely. Happy birthday, Harry!

Your outstanding piece(s) of art and narrative for Harry are like an executive summary of his gallery. This is a true tribute to our goodole friend from California. As faithful as you have been to Harry's art forms, your art comes shinning through being projected with unique light from your heart and soul. I'd know your work anywhere:) Mark, get well, don't slip on the ice up your way, have a great New Year. And a big, exuberant HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Harry:)

What a lovely dedication for Harry. Your words are always as beautiful and meaningful as your images, Mark. You paint an amazing pallet with both. I like the contrasts of black and white, shadow and light, and color. Image 5 stands out to me, as it feels so fanciful, like it is sprinkled with fairy dust and rainbows, playful mists and colorful creatures and shapes that only those who believe in magic can truly see.

WOW! I wouldnt want to choose from all these lovely images you have created, dear Mark. You really made a wonderful stream of fantastic eye feasts. Some in monocrome in deep shadows and bright light, some with a gentle colored mist, like fragments from an other dimention. A puddle with a lovely sky reflection and little pepples and autumn leaves, dissolved in next image and the then pops in a beautiful flower. So much to enjoy, Lovely dedi for Harry. Happy Birthday, Harry :-)

An awesome and overwhelming birthday dedication, to say the least, in this marvelous wedding of artificiality and nature, Mark. All the photos are super duper, captured and postworked with your artist's eye, depicting terrific contrast, color, perspective, repetition, and the fairy dust as a crowning touch, and love the way you blended some of them with a diaphanous effect. This greeting, including the poignant and profound narrative, is most appreciated, especially at my very advanced age. Another year of laughs under my belt, and sorry to read that instead of a case of the flu, it is a nasty infection. I feel the use of antibiotics will bring you back to health.

You couldn't have chosen a better mix of fotos for Harry; each and every one is so right on, just shows the eye he has with his camera. They have your twist as well and that's also very cool!! Happy Birthday, Harry!!!
