Description

These Xanthoria lichens completely coat the shrubs at the top of the steps down to Boscome Pier. They are a pollution tolerant species, and must also be salt tolerant in this location! It is definitely worth looking at a close-up Here

Lichens make for an attractive display but this brings to mind one of those bad Sci-Fi movies where the threat from outer space has taken over. You know, "Resistance is futile. You will be absorbed!" This is a terrific image. Great color, light and clarity.

the Flickr closeup is awesome! I love these lichens that put out the little cup like, what, blooms? or do they contain spores and leave these little cup like thingies behind? Wonderful capture!!

Splendid shot of a species of growth I would never be able to recognize without a guide or a floral manual, Andrea.

An exquisite capture and zoom my friend. I haven't seen lichen this gorgeous since my hiking days in the Olympic National Park, in the US state of Washington. So lush and bountiful!
