Description
Well, not really.
Captured 1/24/14, early morning, about three-fourths of a mile from home.
Best to ZOOM for detail.
Los Angeles City or County, or both, announced some time ago that palm trees, one of the age old icons of the Southern California scene, will no longer be planted in the area because of the high cost of maintenance.
Still plenty of them around though, many of which I have photographed.
Ciao.

Gorgeous take on the Palm trees with an unusually clouded sky. You are so lucky to have so many well established Palm trees in your neighborhood. Great perspective on this photo.

What a cool POV to capture the bushy heads of these very very tall palm trees; excellent detail and lighting, Harry! They are quite messy to deal with, I know as I had one in my backyard in California, and was always having to cut off dead fronds (with a saw!) and dispose of the thorny sharp things without hurting myself. Then when they get really tall and needed trimming I had to hire someone to shimmy up the tree to do it. Nice to look at, not so nice to have!

Zoomed, the details really come out. Fascinating what Denise said about the difficulty of palm-care---and that LA will be changing their policy accordingly. Your capture isn't just fascinating for the angle and the trees' stark presence against the sky: It's equally interesting for the raw look of the trunks, when seen with nothing beneath them. They just hail into the sky...Also, the suddenness of the fronds---the way the fronds just "appear" on top, in palm trees---is emphasized by this perspective: Everything leads up to them. The texture of the bark is so helter skelter: I never noticed that before, or how it looks like peeling paint (it's doing a tribute to you!). And I don't know how you managed to time it, but you got the clouds---left-top---moving in a perfect diagonal to the trees. Fascinating, beautiful capture of what I assume is a common sight where you live... (In Chicago, they put palm trees on the BEACH, a few years back: It was ludicrous. When you've lived through winters like this one, the thought of palm trees ANYWHERE in this area is like Polar Bears in Tijuana. I wish I'd had a camera then, it was a hoot...)
