I assume this is the exact center of your next image (the center of the dream catcher), because it appears to be that center, stroke by stroke. And I chose to comment on the larger piece first because I wanted to save the pure center for afterwards. Kind of looking at the whole, then zeroing into the core... First of all, one sees---as I imagine one would see more, in your fullest versions---your painstaking strokes, one after the next. And those stokes are hardly this color or that---each hue family is filled with variations and other hues. And you put the blue---often a hue of shadow---to the side of and a little above the beak, while the under-beak---where we'd expect to see blues---is done in beautiful peach reds. More of your turning the usual down-up, ground-air, emergent-submergent around. And those peach reds give real movement and sweep to the eagles face. And he's framed on top with that beautiful white (in his head feathers). (The red in his beard---so to speak---could also be a reflection of the deep reds below it...) The blue feathers atop and to the side, as well as the red feathers below, are painted almost one by one, with highlights, made of brighter versions of your colors, used on the edges: a very painterly thing, visceral, thick. The red below is a big bandana (or jabot---ya don't see that word around a lot these days!), and the whole surrounding is like a sea surrounding the eagle. And the flag is integrated into it in waves, making it part of the whole rather than a big advertised flag out in front. The whole feels like a bird emerging out of a sea-of-feathers, all soaked-in your saturated hues, and filled with feather waves everywhere. It's great that you posted both versions, so we can see the closeup and then the larger whole. I'm sure, in the largest version, your 2d version shows all this detail anyway; but with website restrictions, this version lets us see what the zoomed 2d can't: You can only pack so much into that 512KB limit. So this gives us the zoom we can't get there. This is beautiful, Carol, and a big oceanic halo-of-feathers celebrating this majestic bird. I'll come back later tonight, for more (I started here almost an hour ago, and I can't stay more right now). But more beautiful images from you, worlds really, and each one as rich and deep as the next. Beautiful work again.

Thanks so much for your amazing and very detailed and observant comment, Mark. When I was creating this image the intensity of the eagle made me think of the many hard battles won and lost that soldiers have fought for American freedom. And so the red in the eagle is symbolic of bloodshed and lives lost, as well as the colors in the flag. The original artwork prints to a size of 4' x 4', with much detail. But even at this low resolution you saw many things I put into the art, as you always do. Thanks again for your wonderful comment.
