Description

... that is the question (with apologies to W. Shakespeare). OK, not to beat a dead horse, but this is for SunriseGirl, who asked if I could show an example of an image before & after I have postworked it. I actually have three versions of this one. The first one was one I posted about a year ago & can be viewed here. It was postworked, but not radically. I don't remember exactly what I did to it, but generally I tweak brightness/contrast, vibrance, levels, curves & sharpness. This version here was put through the same kind of pseudo IR processing as my previous two posts, so it has definitely been more radically altered. My next post will be the un-postworked version... Please zoom.

I lova, lova, lova this version. Very nice with the snowy egret in the background. Lovely colors and composition!

So far I like this one the best! You have to be true to yourself and not play to an audience.

This is a very nice image Claude. I didn't mean to start off this fuss but I do find the comments interesting!!

Hey, Jeff, it's all in a positive spirit of friendly discussion from my point of view. Life would be pretty dull if we all agreed on everything, wouldn't it?

I love these comparason shots. What a difference a little tweeking (or maybe more) can make. The original photo is a lovely shot. The original last years post of it even better and this one looks like a totally different season to me. Photosynthesis inspires me to try some experimenting of my own now. :) Thank you.

Well................I find the original image needs adjustment. But I find this image a little too over-processed for my taste. No offence mate, just being honest. I feel a natural scene requires a natural look. The sky and water has ended up quite grainy. It's a beautiful looking place though. Andrew

hoo boy, this is splendid, Claude. Love the deep saturated blues, love the contrasts, love how the blues set off the hues of the trees and the grasses. You took the original and made it dance and sing. I haven't been commenting because of personal matters, but I will. Know however that my comment yesterday was to bolster what you said, by mentioning just a few of the artists who've altered the camera image to make it sing from the heart. And some, as you know, even do it in the camera itself, where they treat the camera like PS...Photography is an art, as Denise said (and hers is, in spades), so we bring our art to every image we make. This is gorgeous. Whoosh. More soon...

The much more saturated skies are beautiful.

Gorgeous! :) You took a superior picture and made it artistically closer to what I want to see.

This is a great image and the postwork really makes it pop I did a SBS and the original seemed bland and blah

Absolutely gorgeous. I also like this one best so far, the rich deep colours always grab me!

Having seen your next post there is no doubt this is by far the superior version. There is rich saturation of colors and great tonal contrast whereas the original looks flat and dull. But of course you should not be surprised that I prefer the processed version. I agree with Blinkings that the noise level is a bit too high, but only on full scale view. This would be easily fixed if you ran it through Topaz Denoise, I highly recommend this program for all heavily processed and HDR shots. It makes a huge difference and would allow you to print this image.

I looked back at the previous version and I like the punch in this one. An exquisite sky and superb reflection!
