Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

A dark woody capture, of a very autumnally colored creature. The backlighting sure fills up its wings; and in your capture it looks like it has fungi instead of wings. Strong detail on the body and head, too. Another fascinating detailed insect capture from you. You and helle have given us many from this part of the animal kingdom, and I'm grateful for them all. (As an aside, when you give your flickr links, I often think what it would be like if nature did that: We're looking at a lake, and to the side it says, "for an alternate view---with less BLUE!---click here." I'm working on getting hyperlinks into life. It might take some time, but hey, it's worth it...)

The light is just perfect for your subject! Lovely. I used to know a guy who, in the process of unreeling a sentence with a qualifier, would spew forth the beginning, and then say, "However, comma," and continue with the rest of it. An odd verbal tic, indeed. That comma was the only part he ever spoke aloud, and he always, always did it. I heard it so often it became a part of my permanent mental landscape. This is a beautiful comma butterfly! However, comma, I would prefer to see one in person.

You have become quite the expert in macro photography, Andrea. Both images are spectacular. And I love your reply to Jayfar. You have validated Sam Haskins comeback to his dinner host.

Very nice Andrea. Despite the rather harsh light you managed a goodun. Well done you!

What a beauty! These always seem to be carved out of wood, they have the grain lines and everything. Love it!

"Hey, paisan, comma here and have a glass of wine," as they would say in Italy. And, since I'm so short on time and chatter, I echo Mark/anahata.c's opening paragraph.

Fantastic macro. Great details!

This is superb! I will not go into much more detail because I do not have the literary skills to compete with some of the other comments. (I really think some people are probably famous authors in disguise..cough..anahaha c....cough)
