Description

Weathered Limber Pine cones at Whirlpool Point. Nothing staged here, it was just the way it was when I saw it, lying on a crusty windblown snow pack hugging the mountainside. All around us everything was roughed up, raw, weathered and knarled. The place felt tough. A winter storm was coming down on us, fast, we could feel it, but we did not let its ominous presence bother us. We would deal with it when we had to. I was focused on capturing the moment; my friend Bob was focused on the mystery of the purity of the place. We did not talk; it was not necessary. Years of shared experience in the wilderness ensured we were on parrallel paths of thoughts; there was no need to talk now. There would be time for talk on the drive back to the lodge. Now was the time to simply absorb the singularity of the experience. This was the shot I went on the trip to get, but did not know it at the time.

I can see why you say this was the shot you came for. I love the way the white snow leads the eye, it is a beautiful capture and everything is arrange just right in the composition. A true feast for the viewer.

This is magnificent on so many levels, but what I love most is the almost monotone of the scene punctuated by the color of the recently fallen pinecone. This is a superb capture, Roxy!

Plants have been around a lot longer than us and have adapted many strange and complex ways to survive and adept to their environment... ;)

Really wonderful capture, Roxy. I agree with Delaney, there is a beautiful trail leading us through this image, and the textures of the natural world show so wonderfully here. Just a great shot. :)
