Description
Still at the Los Angeles Arboretum. These were hanging from a large palm tree. The sign attached to the tree said that it was a Toddy Fishtail Palm & that it was native to India & the Malay Peninsula. Apparently, these bloom into white flowers at some point, but I think they look pretty interesting at this stage.
According to Wikipedia, the pulp of this tree is edible & elephants in particular love it...

We're dropped right in the middle of this, and it feels like we inadvertently entered a very vital dialogue. I mean like entering a room where an intense conversation has been going on for a while, with a bunch of people, and we walked right into the middle of it and they didn't even notice us. It has your usual clarity mixed with very vivid hues, and your sense of excitement at presenting yet another piece of nature in all its stunning presence. At first I thought they were christmas lights, or maybe coffee beans strung out on a string---like rock candy? You know how it's put on strings? (Yeah, like they're gonna string coffee beans that way.) But it's real buds. Fine closeup with your usual intensity and concentrated focus. (A playful artist would attach plugs to the ends of each branch, to make us think these branches were "plugged in". Not too funny to the branches, but I think it could be done in a non-harmful way...)

How amazing! I've never heard of such a thing. This is filled with potential ... one sort of beauty ready to give way to another ... and it just sings! Gorgeous.
