Description
Captured way back on 4/2/07, at the beautiful Descanso Gardens -- a 160 acre botanical garden of cultivated and natural beauty -- in beautiful La Canada Flintridge, situated in beautiful north Los Angeles County, California.
While perusing through my tons/tonnes of ancient photo files last night, I came upon this beauty. This is one of the many shots I took when I first acquired my Pentax K110D SLR, and before I knew what I was doing digital camera-wise. At least I got good bokeh with the Pentax, powered by four AA batteries.
We've had two rather moderate earthquakes (5.1 and 4.1) over the past eighteen hours. I live very close to the epicenters and felt them quite good. Rock and roll. There have been over 100 aftershocks since the first one, with most barely perceptible. In any event, most unnerving while working on the computer. A harbinger of things to come?
Arrivederci, baby.

Nice work on this very lovely capture, Harry.

It is a beauty, Harry; love those stripey ones! Excellent work! My brother was on the phone with my dad when the quakes hit, so I knew right away and wondered if you were OK. Glad you seem to be fine, 5.1 is certainly enough to give one pause. I grew up hearing about "The Big One" that they say is coming, and it's the same up here in Seattle. But if it isn't earthquakes it's tornadoes or hurricanes of sinkholes or alligators...life is uncertain, eat dessert first, right?

oh, the postwork is beautiful, Harry, your bokeh makes this like a big sundae, or a peppermint candy dessert in the background. And in front of that, the front petals shine. You cropped it for center composition, which is beautiful, with two 'candy' flowers on each side. Bokeh has rarely looked as delicious! A simple centered pov can be boring (I have drawerfuls of them), but here it's perfect, as you presented this like a beautiful dessert. Great job with an older shot! And re the earthquakes: Yikes! I hadn't seen news of it over here, and I don't know how you live with that: Anything 5 and over is not to be trifled with. I hope they don't come again, and don't get over that intensity either. As Denise said, better eat dessert first! But, fittingly, this picture IS a dessert...(As I was typing this, my server dropped out, and I thought: Am I getting an earthquake? Here in Chicago? It must be frightening when it's for real!)

A brilliant breath of spring Harry. This reminds me of all the grand photo ops to be had over the next month or two...even in places far distant from southern California. We are in southern Alabama right now on the shores of Mobile Bay. Flowers are popping out...I am ready for 'em:)
