Description
Captured approximately seven years ago, 4/14/07, at large and beautiful Echo Park, near downtown Los Angeles, California.
This was back in the day when I could kneel down and then stand up with very little effort. To perform the same action today I would need the aid of an overhead crane.
Anyway, when Denise posted a shot of a semi sleeping duck some days ago, it rang a bell, so I traveled way back into my ancient files and found one of this finely feathered goose, not only with its head and neck askew, but also standing up, fully asleep, with both eyes closed.
Now that I have rediscovered them, I now have tons/tonnes more of the Echo Park photos yet to post.
Adjo.

Lol andrea, "don't try this at home". (If I did, no one would see me for a month.) And lol, your needing a crane: I say try putting one in your camera bag. I've considered it, believe me. I once jumped over a small ledge to capture a bird before it flew away? My knees buckled and I couldn't get up! Six 18 years olds ran over and offered me assistance---they were very kind---and I wanted to shrivel up and crawl into a hole. A crane would've sounded very good at that moment...Anyway, this is a most unusual capture, Harry, it has so much contortion in one pose, and yet its body is totally in a normal position. I don't know how these birds don't fall over from this. Denise's shot is a bird napping, but this goose looks like he's grooming or trying to find something (or someone, lol) or maybe he's scratching himself. It's the kind of pose that one waits a long time to find, and you got it, and it's really a fun shot, and head-on too. If you didn't zoom, you must've been very close because he doesn't look like he's moving away from you anytime soon. Good job capturing a tough pose. Geese walk away from me all the time, btw, and what irks me is that they don't 'run'---they just saunter.---like I'm so NOT a threat, it's barely worth their effort. (Little creeps. They could at least fake terror...) Nice work again, Harry. Your kneeling paid off.

I need a crane too, Harry; I can get down there (with some groaning) but it takes an act of Congress or a miracle to get me back up again. Getting older ain't for sissies! What a cool pose to see and capture...I've never seen one quite like this; his neck looks so relaxed in that position it's almost as if it's broken, but the feet seem firmly planted and the body balanced over them (wonder if they have weights in the bottom to help with this?) Did he wake up when he heard your shutter and panic, running away and quacking out "Oh my god, someone broke into my bedroom and took pictures of me while I was ASLEEP!"? I can just imagine it. Well done here, my friend, and I hope your condo didn't get any cracks from the earthquakes.

I don't think geese quack. I believe they honk and screech.

What a delightful capture Harry. He must have forgot to set his alarm clock. Surely his boss is trying to find him:)
