Description
Captured way back on 4/10/06, at the beautiful Fullerton Arboretum in beautiful Fullerton, California.
Most cool viewed via ZOOM.
These were shot at a low resolution of 640 x 480, which required needed postwork to bring it up to Renderosity standards. And, I have no idea as to the species of this arboreal splendor. On further scrutiny, the roots remind me of yams. Maybe I'll return there for more photos and get some identification as to the general flora around the Arboretum.

Harry, you did a great job on these photos. That tree has some really wild roots.

Love the naughty roots!

Great set of pictures but I find them quite alarming somehow.

Great pics. These roots are something .I suspect that because they are above ground, they take on above ground branch characteristics. Nice postwork.

Oh my! A real pinup of the arboreal world, isn't it? Those roots are something to behold, Harry; I can't say I've ever seen anything quite like it. They look quite overfed and under-exercised, don't they? What a great find! Something about the general trunk says ficus species to me, but I'm quite likely wrong there. Excellent captures and great rescue work here!

This is definitely not a ficus, D.

Beautiful. I keep staring, and following their forms and tangles, and their bulbous spots. They're quite graceful, and even provocative. Hmm...are you sure these are not ficus macrophylla (or even craterostoma) with those huge aerial roots? Macrophylla's also called a banyan or bay fig. :)

I guess one can't call this a "candid," because these magnificent trees roots are in this position for lonnnnnng periods: Hardly a "candid" moment. But still, it feels like a "steal" of a shot, because it feels intimate, caught in a pose they didn't want others to see...The distended root surfaces remind me of the painful liquid-retention that happens to human limbs, from heart failure (or other ailments). Either that or, as Denise said, they're overfed and under-excercised! They look like big bulbous moles with snakes crawling all over them---amazingly strange and sensuous. Whatever these are, I can tell you we don't have them in Chicago; and you captured their bulbous yoga-positioned limbs with real clarity and bulging splendor. And again, kudos for whatever surgery you had to do with another low resolution shot...A fascinating collection; and as a montage, it feels like you've gone from front shots to side shots to back shots: I know there's no such thing, with trees, but your montage shows that kind of progression, showing your usual fine sensitivity to grouping. Wonderful offering...
