Description
You're a grand old flag, but not a high flying flag.
Captured 4/17/14, early am, not far from home.
And a gate that is rarely, if ever, opened....at least while I've been living here since 1986. This is the back of a homestead and faces an alley. I've seen the front of the homestead and it does have a separate driveway leading to a garage. There have been at least two owners of the home. In any event, that is taking patriotism seriously, and it saves the effort of posting a flag in front each national holiday.
For close examination of color and texture, do ZOOM.
Shalom.

Tons of texture in zoom, Harry; someone did a nice paint job here! When I lived in Bay Point, CA there was a house I often passed that had their garage door painted like this, and the house in a complementary blue-gray. Not sure how the neighbors felt about it, but who can bad-mouth a flag? Your consistently high photographic standards are evident here, well done!

a pretty nice example of patriotism, and that is all the paintings of doors ... this is certainly not the usual supporting American colors ...

That is one cool idea for a gate they had, Harry.

Yeah, this is a terrific find and capture. In zoom, the textures are articulate, wonderfully decayed and yet holding their own. And wonderfully skewed too---ie, the breaks in the door panels, the big hole in the stars, etc. And it "sweeps," even though it's just a gate...I also like the white posts on top---they add a kind of "crown" to the thing. Well, as I've said before, this is a sight many photographers would walk away from, but which you do on behalf of the rest of us: It's caught in two perspective shots, with real urban grit and decay, and a sense of "I'm here, and I ain't budgin', no matter what anyone thinks". And, re patriotism, a gate like this shows endurance and strength as well as a full cloth flag, to my mind, and that says something about patriotism. A really fine find, and with textures that make it a part of real life. Love it.
