Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

This is a brilliant portrayal of the Wood Pigeon Andrea, super lighting and the Chestnut is spot on too.

I find wood pigeons fun to watch because they will fly to a location and then contemplate for a quite a while where they are wanting to go next... for example to land on the lawn.. they look down and look around.. repeat that about four times and then do it. Usually you spot them in pairs unless there are eggs. They have a slight comical aspect to their mannerisms. You have captured this WP so well.. lovely colours and lighting with a wonderful backdrop. World away from some of the scabby old pigeons we have flying around our towns and cities.

Very very fine picture !!

beefy looking bird - I pity the crow that tangles with this one! Great captures

A superb capture of the lovely wood pigeon, A, a variety of species that is a far cry from our local kind. This one appears broader than ours.

I think this bird works out!

Holy cow,...your robust (and probably courageous) pigeon brings to mind a famous carrier pigeon of WWI fame..."Cher Ami" saved the lives of 194 surrounded American soldiers in the Battle of the Argonne in October 1918. Aren't birds wonderful:)

Such lovely coloring, and he looks so nice in that chestnut tree! (Leave it to hubby to have a war story about nearly anything at all.) :P

Both photos are lovely. I especially like the one in flicker with the pink blossums.

Perhaps because everyone knows Andrea's is the place to be. Excellent capture and a very noble pose although he does look as if he's trying out new contact lenses.

I like this version best - a beautiful pigeon portrait. Sad to say that all of the Chestnut trees that were around when I was a kid - seem to have disappeared!
