Sorry, correction on the idenity of this chick. This is a mallard, not a wood duck. I pulled up the wrong picture!

Beautiful photo! Such a little one, fits nicely in the palm of ones hand. I wonder what it thinks, feels. Everything is so new. It must be curious like mad, yet mom keeps it in line from all to her known lurking dangers. As an anatomist I just can't refrain from seeing all the fantastic complex systems that make up this little fellow and wondering how they form its behaviour and feelings. It can't be mere "chance". :-)
