Description

Araniella cucurbitina, a little orb web spider on one of super Echiums I grew from seed last year. Patience is required , as they don't flower in the first season. I am struck by the way she matches the leaf's colours so well

Strictly speaking wouldn't it be Spider above Echium? Lovely classic web design. Superb detail. I wonder if the marking on her backside is meant to deter unwanted visitors?

Glad you posted this cool image, Andrea, just as a reminder that such creatures actually do exist in this world.

Fascinating spider capture, people should fear them less. Nice work.

I do like the orb weavers, they are so talented! One year we had a bazillion of them at the Hollow, but the last few years they've been harder to find. Not a good omen in my mind. A beautiful shot of this one. Wonder why they often are like this, belly outward. Makes getting a topside photo difficult.

Camouflage at its best - an excellent capture!
