Description
and a pair of footprints running diagonally across the image.
Captured 5/20/14, early in the AM, about a half a mile away, abutting a lawn in front of a church.
I don't know what they were doing there digging up a sizeable portion of lawn and sidewalk, leaving an absolute quagmire of mud in its stead. This was close to the freeway widening project but there was seemingly no connection between the two.
Kind of reminds me of my Rocky Road Chocolate ice cream.
In any case, cool contrast, lighting and textures here.
Ciao, baby.

What a fascinating abstract it makes! Could have been a water main leak, or a gas leak, or some other utility issue requiring the dig up. Good thing you came upon the mudbed to capture it for posterity. And did you have to mention rocky road ice cream? Now I'm hungry...

I think you've got it! Come to think of it, there may have been a connection between the freeway widening project and the church lawn. The incessant pounding of the huge pile driver must have impacted a water main and caused a huge leak, which resulted in a ton of mud. Thanks, Denise.

Another gutsy shot, as it's something a lot of photographers wouldn't bother with. And a very textured and rich bunch of mud, both wet-looking and dried. And the footsteps make fine counterpoint, along with the other nooks and crannies and rivers criss-crossing the mess. Rocky Road, lol? Yes, it does look like a big serving of Rocky Road ice cream. Nice contrast between the light mud (largely in the left half) and the darker "matte" mud (largely in the right). A rich in medias res shot, and with real variety; and I really like the shadows esp in the footsteps. Another fine shot of the stuff beneath our eyes, of process and decay on display. Gutsy rich shot, Harry. And btw, I've heard several origins for "here's mud in your eye," and they're all pretty amazing. Some trace it to WWI, from trench warfare (with lots of mud; perhaps it was a sardonic way of saying that you're gonna get mud in your face, like it or not); and some trace it to the sediment at the bottom of a glass of wine. Some have even traced it to the bible, when it speaks of "mud in the eye". I have no idea which is right. But it's not an inviting proposition, lol, even though it's a great saying.
