Description

The theme for one of the scavenger hunt groups on Flickr was 'Film Noir' so I used my decaying sculpture, see Here This is a close-up.

Very interesting work Andrea, I bet he protects the greenhouse!... what's he made from?.. plaster or papier-mâché?. Looks like he may have a touch of gout. :-)

Did you find him in the Mekon Delta :) I don't recall this in 09, is it a more recent addition? However it is, I like it.

I always wondered what happened to the alien from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Striking post work but the second image is somewhat melancholy, as if she has been abandoned.

I'm skipping around, I want to get a variety. This one was a knockout the minute it went up. First, the flickr photo is wonderful, for the dark brooding tones, and the feeling of a sculpture that's emptied out and has nothing more to give. I really like the sculpture itself too, it's wan look and isolated feel. (I don't know if it was intended that way at first, I'm only responding to how it looks in its decayed state. I'd love to see it in better light.) And it seems so resigned in that setting---I really like the photo. BUT! (Yes that was a loud "but".) THIS version is an archaeological find from the 15th C BCE. Like an ancient god or goddess. And one that, with the centuries, has transformed into a hollow but very powerful presence. Almost a mummy. It's a terrific job, Andrea, all colonized and taken over by the small metropolitan areas of mold and other microorganisms that inhabit everything sooner or later. And your crop makes the face and the tilt into the vacant stare of a god of warning. Lots of grays and some brown and even light violet tones here---it's terrific. You did a terrific job with this: You gave your sculpture a life that it might have required another 100 years to achieve. Bravo!

How long have you kept this Martian as a prisoner??? He looks a bit crusty! I like the FlickR version!
