Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I onlyĀ use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. IĀ carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series,Ā binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
IĀ am gettingĀ theĀ hang ofĀ Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Ā
I have a wildlife gardenĀ in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagersĀ a while ago.
I'mĀ now getting some good results withĀ my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, butĀ the mistakes are much cheaper!Ā Ā
I haveĀ 4 lodgers,Ā 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Helle might not have tempted you, but she certainly tempted me! If I come up with anything, I'll let you know and ask first, of course. :)

Really, this looks like a painting (Renoir?) It seems so romantic to me, to have this in the garden, it's one of my dreams to once have some kind of pond here too. :)

Well I'll TRY to do something with this, since Tara did a beautiful painting, and now Helle's trying something. I haven't painted in years---but for a few efforts. Also, I DON'T use pastels, for the same reasons you don't: They get all over everything. Pastel dust galore. In my hair, on my carpet, on the ceiling...it's awful. And on the page? A big mess with no form, no presence, nothin'. It's devious and evil. (AND, I have 3 sets of beautiful delectable pastels which just sit there looking edible. But I digress...) This is a beautiful shot, Andrea. The wider shot (flickr) does tell us more what it's about---it's a beauty too---but the closeup really zeroes in and makes it a near abstract. I can see why Tara wanted to paint it---it's very painterly, even as a photo. And this crop makes the right-side leaf look like a big curled-up mushroom, standing guard over the flower. The water is like sheer plastic or stretched glass. And everything hugs and frames that beautiful flower. It's very visceral, gutsy, earthy, and another fine closeup of nature from you. I'll try, but I probably won't succeed. (This is too good to mess up.) (I may do pen and ink---that should be fairly impossible!) Beautiful primal shot. Very primal.

Both excellent captures Andrea and lovely colors! I would love to visit your garden some summer!

I love both versions. I love the light, color, and textures. The flower is delicately luminous with a golden center and the leaves are like velvet. The water goes from a smokey glass which gives hints of the world below it, to a mirror reflecting the world above. I love the veins in the leaf in the wider view. Beautiful work!
