Description

Captured 3/20/14, early morning, somewhere around the neighborhood. When I first came upon this vehicle (an old model Mercury?), I was more fascinated with what appears to be rust on the doors, and really wasn't aware of the cool whitewall tires/tyres until I reviewed the photo. Quite a contrast here. In retrospect, the auto may be in a state of renovation. If that's the case, then the owner will have to find some proper chrome strips if he/she wants to finish the job in an appropriate manner. Cheerio.

What an old beauty! Looks like she's seen better days; I hope someone is restoring it, but parts might be hard to come by, and be quite costly as a result. A labour of love! Wonderful find and photo, Harry!

Bet he's got a lot of that chrome either in his garage or off being replated. That's a Plymouth 1946-1948...there wasn't any changes right after the war until 1949. Good to see somebody working on this senior citizen:-)

First of all, great find. You're one of the few people on this site who finds these things regularly, and you've been doing it and postworking them for so long, you know just where to look and how to handle them. You've showcased this dilapidated beauty in your usual finessed style with car shots---between a trash bin (it's right up against it! love it!) and I assume a car on the front end (under a tarp). It's sandwiched in there, with an angled pov so we can see the back as well as the side; and against that house on a very pleasing, jutting angle too. I really dig your composition, including the curved brick in front---a good accent for the whole. As for the old beast, the moisture on the window is a great addition. And while I know nothing about vintage cars, I assume the owners of this do intend to finish the job. (Bill knew the model and years---how do you people know these things! I see "old car".) Those clean whitewalls on this beast are like fine Spectator shoes---those Gatsby-like dress shoes with the white leather in the middle---worn with a torn t-shirt and cutoff jeans. See, if this owner were an artist, I'd say he/she did this for ART's sake---as it's a great combo. But probably it's a car lover, in mid-renovation, as you suggest. Great find, and your skills in presenting cars are as sharp with these beasts as they are with new models. Love this find. (Isn't that a high suspension for a car? I mean you could probably fit a bedroom set under that thing. And don't laugh that I said "suspension"---it's the only car term I know, other than "let's get GOING!" That seems high off the ground...)
