Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I onlyĀ use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. IĀ carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series,Ā binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
IĀ am gettingĀ theĀ hang ofĀ Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Ā
I have a wildlife gardenĀ in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagersĀ a while ago.
I'mĀ now getting some good results withĀ my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, butĀ the mistakes are much cheaper!Ā Ā
I haveĀ 4 lodgers,Ā 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Excellent shot of this bug, he's quite a handsome rogue!

An exciting capture, great patterns on his wings, I do believe he does not sting despite the name. Nice shot and good to find a female too, although mating can be dangerous for the male.

such detail is really fantastic.

An amazing capture.
NightGallery
Absolutely amazing! I have never seen one in the wild. Great shot... Do you know if they sting people? Great catch.

A very sharp dresser but what a schnoz on his lady friend. I was thinking a better name would be the Toucan fly. Super sharp image. A great macro.
GARAGELAND
The zoom, the green, the sharpness, need I say more!!!!!! popped into FavĀ“s
Adobe_One_Kenobi
A species unknown to me, thanks for that :) Excellent shot.

What a beautifully intricate wing pattern & you've captured in glorious sharpness & detail...
goodoleboy
Super macro of the creature. Being a scorpion fly, it must have a stinger on its tail. And, I would be excited to see ANY kind of insect or arachnid around my neck of the woods.

I love the wing patterns on his wings - a super capture Andrea!

Man, how'd you know the difference between the male and female? I can't fathom how you learned all this! A really strong closeup of the beautiful wings, and how it's so natural against that leaf. To us, it's a small leaf, but to the fly, it's a gigantic landing pad. Is it pregnant, I wonder? Is that what that sac on the end is? A beautiful creature in closeup. And you must do a lot of bending and craning to get these shots without a huge zoom lens. Very sweet work, Andrea.

An excellent close up.
