Description

A local random man. He was sitting outside one of the many eating places in my urban 'village', and he looked so cute and elfin that I bent down as I passed and said "Hello! May I take your picture?" "You'll need to know my name first," he replied. Then ensued a fascinating brief life history, during which he revealed that he still lived in the house in which he had been conceived and born, the last of 9 siblings. The shock was when I asked him his age: he is only 69. That is what smoking does to you, as I know only too well. But I gave up in 2000, and he hasn't! See the full glory of that great hat in colour Here

What a fantastic face. Definitely an elf. Too bad about the smoking, he looks like a nice man.

Think it depends on the individual. I am 60 in October smoke like a train and easily pass for mid 40's But I will say that I have excessively oily skin, so that is probably why my skin still looks young-ish :) That said he does look older than his years. Excellent shot all this besides.

A fine character portrait. I would have guessed that he was in his late 70's or early 80's...

Only 69 with that appearance? More testimony to the fact that smoking raises havoc with the skin, among other things. Otherwise, another fabulous portrait added to your man-on-the-street album. Geoffrey Hole, a name only Charles Dickens could have conceived of.

Sir Walter Raleigh did this to young Geoffrey:) One of your best "man in the street" photos. And you got conversation to boot...

I like this young chap (I can say that since I am 71) but the hat and the shirt do clash (FlickR version). I love the facial smile and are you sure that he was not pulling your leg about his age. :o)

He is the first person i've seen who actually fits the descriptive Elfin category! I too quit years ago, probably 30 or more years back. Smoking and probably genetics .. fortunate for you as he makes a wonderful portrait!

Wow, duuuude! That's a helluva a hat (in color)! And the shirt too! The guy's got a flare for catching eyes...But the mono version has introspection, and you caught a very kind gaze, not just for the smile but for the warm enveloping eyes. A loving portrait; your ability to grab these from your day, without spending time studying the person or posing them, lighting them, etc, is wonderful, Andrea. You've done so many fine ones, and penetrating too. It's a wonderful series. A loving portrait into a gentle-looking soul. Very fine work.

Great character portrait and both B&W and Colour Shots work well in this subject. Nice one.
