You speak of the cheetah waiting patiently. But I also see a cheetah in peace or inner contemplation. There's a saying in Hinduism that elephants sit with such stillness because they're contemplating their last lives, and are oblivious to what's going on around them. This cheetah is staring, but as if out of some inner place: There's much tranquility in the cheetah, and the stare---though alert---seems like someone who 'has' to be alert, but who shows only enough alertness as is necessary, while it's real concentrations are inside. Like someone looking up during meditation, but never leaving their inward state... Further, the yellow of the eyes---esp when surrounded by those lines of blue---also make him seem to be peering from 'inside'. And the body is so at rest. We don't see all the body, in fact; but what we see is totally at rest, as opposed to being half perched and ready to sprint. (A feline rest, alert, but totally at rest.) And the grasses are beautifully articulated, like thought waves. And you have this golden-orange 'arch' above the cheetah---it's the sky, but it's making a canopy over him. It's like a golden rainbow hovering over him. And there are full yellow-amber tones at the ground-line, very rich and reminiscent, to me, of Van Gogh's field paintings. Like the grasses are flames of a sort, with a cheetah comfortable in the middle of it all. This piece seems a bit unusual, for your recent work, because of the all-present grass and how its rhythms dominate the piece. But in spirit and light and 'inner flame', it's a Carol piece through and through. And your detail in the face---considering it's being interrupted by grasses, everywhere---is very fine. And I love the touches of blue in there as well: They seem a very intuitive touch, and give luminosity to the beast. Beautiful piece again, Carol. Very peaceful.
