Description

Somewhere In the heart of the Universe There is a soul mate rose That grows Forever In a starlit galaxy Filled with infinite Light Beauty And Love. Soul Mate Rose prose by Carol Cavalaris © A rose for my beloved, LJ, gone now for 8 years, forever in my heart. Each year on the anniversary of LJ's passing, I create an image to honor him, our relationship, and my journey of grief and healing. I'm slowly learning that love doesn't die, but lives in a new way. Created in Photoshop, using a rose named Galaxy, painting techniques, blended with an Orion Nebula modified background. Special thanks to Brigitte for the use of her lovely rose. Hope you enjoy. The light here is so strong, it half-dissolves the flower in its rays. The flower is all-present---don't get me wrong---but the light that it generates, and the hues around it, make it seem like the flower's made of light itself: a powerful affirmation of the love you speak of. LJ is elevated to heavenly places by this piece, as is love itself. Some of your flowers are loaded with visceral lines and furrows, they're very tactile, very much like deep fabric; but this rose seems made of floating hues. In the rose, you're using most of the colors of the rainbow, and they're very bright and luminous (not dark greens or dark reds, but aqua greens and light reds). That adds to the feeling that this is light as much as "flower". And your paint-strokes pulse out like sun rays. You have dark hues in the surrounding areas, of course---deep contrast---and they're quite sensual. And you have dissolving light at top, which I think is the way we envision loved ones who've passed before us (dissolving into pure light). This image shows not only love, but the freedom to let it fly through the universe, as if you're watching LJ fly and embracing his freedom wholly. Very affirming. Of all your recent flower paintings, this one seems most made of pure light. And those waves of red on one edge, and greens on the other, are like cosmic nebulae---you can see great photo-enhancements of them on NASA's site---churning-out the universe. The ancient Hindus and Buddhists envisioned scenes like this all over the place. Very beautiful; and as a poem to love and healing, it's gorgeous.
