What a great moment you captured. Those pigeons really are dancing with anticipation and enthusiasm, and just love the ones caught in flight. It must have been wonderful to see and hear all the action. Definitely the music of nature.

I like the timelessness that your mono treatment gives this shot, and it makes me think that this guy might still be putting out seed for the pigeons when he's 85 years old. Of course when you're young and do this sort of thing it's nice. When you're old, it's eccentric. Okay, that wasn't what I originally wanted to say, but my mind went out on a little road trip. What struck me was the composition. The man and the tree as brackets are a nice touch, allowing the pigeons to go all the way out to the edges of the frame. Those elements provide structure. The slightly diagonal walkway gives a nice counterpoint. And! Of course! The pigeons! I can hear them, feel the motion, see the way they walk ... this is wonderful!

Jun 19, 2014 3:54:23 am Ah, I can actually hear a whole symphony orchestra, which played really well - so well in fact, that all those pigeons were clapping applause with their wings and the conductor takes a bow ... ;)) BTW - love the sepia effect ... *** I just had to see for myself, who gave me such a nice intro at Jacominas post here - in your own words: "A beautiful fractal and a wonderful dedi for your friend. I've never met Brigitte, but from all the people who love her here, she must be a terrific person" and I think you must be pretty special yourself Mark and it's nice to meet you too ;) BB

Oh my, I can hear the cooing and purring of all those pigeons anticipating a good dinner, and urging him to finish so they can get stuck into it! That's a LOT of happy pigeons! I put out birdseed at work every morning for my little feathered friends, but no pigeons have found me there yet, just juncos, towhees, wrens and crows, with an occasional seagull. I guess I'm practicing for my old-agehood, before I descend into complete cootness.

Mile after mile of pigeons on a feeding frenzy, in this action packed photo, Mark. Love the texture and stark lighting contrast in this seemingly endless pano. Poor guy didn't know he had unleashed a torrent of avians on spilling the feed, and must have felt overwhelmed. And, really stunning with the blurs emphasizing the instant reactions of the pigeons, acting as if they handn't eaten in months. Have they no discipline, no gravitas? Incidentally, I had a similar result some months back, with an instant onslaught of pigeons coming directly at me when startled. Miraculously, none of them hit me in their haste. As for BB/Brigette/Blondblurr, I hope you have better relations with her than I've had.

An old man slumps on a wooden seat -- Pigeons flocking to his feet. Once he labored. Once he loved. Once he dreamt Of days to come. Now he ponders on a park bench Pigeons pecking at his recompense. by Sam Toil Sam's got it right. How many older gentlemen have you seen in city parks feeding the pigeons? BTW I might have called them old men a few years ago but now "I are one" :-) Fine photo Mark. The crop tells the story right along with the pigeons in the queue. I am amazed they are waiting their turn. B&W works perfectly.

Mark, I simply love your outlook on life and the things around you. I find it refreshing to see someone that looks for the beauty which surrounds us every day. Your interpretation of this photo gave me a big smile, and I totally agree with your assessment. This truly is like a musical score as you can feel the excitement and intensity of the moment. While the gentleman's focus is obviously on scooping up the spilled birdseed, I got a kick out of your focus being on the bigger picture of a musical setting.

I zoomed and saw that his head was gone, hidden by a wing. Or maybe that WAS his head and the pigeons somehow transformed him!! I don't think I'd like being in the middle of all that bird life; too much like "The Birds"!!

Fabulous capture and motif, Mark. This shot is so full of life and motion. The music from this scene, i can imagine :) A pleasure to see that someone still think about feeding animals in public, in 2014. The Pigeon/Dove is also a special symbol. A symbol of peace.
