Description

Another in my occasional series of distressed road markings. I think they have a beauty which is not there when they are first painted.. See another Here

While I love to see bright, shiny new paint, it certainly does not have the character of paint that's been worn and has become one with the pavement. This tells a very different story. I like it!

The beauty of wear and tear. A terrific find and abstract. Looking at the marks on some of the pieces, you can almost imagine clay tablets with ancient writing on them.

This reminds me of a saying we have in London. In England we used to drive on the left of the road, now we drive on what's left of the road. Great artistic shot my dear.

Like the cracks in the top of a molasses cookie, the beauty only comes out at the end! Great shot!

Blimey, one of my favorite subject matter….street markings gone to hell in a hand basket. This one has really seen better days and nights. Corrosion/deterioration/erosion at its finest. Top drawer stuff. Love it. And thanks for reminding me that I have similar stuff in my forgotten files.

The skill you have in this series is making the potentially mundane appear positively fascinating with the wear of time, I guess also like us human's too.... or so my back likes to tell me from time to time. :-)

Well I assume you don't get upset by few full views in your gallery, but I do, and it's because, when one sees this full view, they see not only the wonderful array of furrows, canyons, etc, in the pic, but your wonderful postwork as well. It's not as visible in display mode (the way the shot shows, before being zoomed). I wish the site made its display dimensions MUCH bigger---ok, they maybe can't allow a massive piece to show, upfront; but at least make it larger than 700 pixels wide (the RR limit) and 72 dpi. Displays are ALL 700 pixels wide and 72 dpi---even if your shot is 3000 pixels wide and 300 dpi. So imagine what the viewer is missing, by not zooming. I'll stop, but we work sooooo hard, so when I see that only 3 people have seen this as you intended it, I get depressed. The other viewers don't know what they're missing... Anyway, it's a marvelous closeup of the terrain of streets and the painting on them; and how that painting breaks up into islands, peninsulas, and all the rest. And your treatment allows little pebbles to stand out, little villages. And the crevices are little canyons. Love the contrast of the yellow with all the other hues. And the flickr shot is just as exciting, just more minimal. Love these shots, they're terrific photography, and your treatments always bring out whole layers of stuff inside. I'm a fan!

Wonderful image! When I first saw it, my mind saw a vertical wall with a row of bricks at the bottom. I agree with Mark, this is definitely meant to be seen at full zoom. There are so many very cool details. I love the yellow areas that are cracked into tiny pieces like countries on a map. Along one of the curves of the 'S' the edge looks like a coastline with bays and islands. In another place there are 3 barges barely squeezing through a canal, and a person in a hooded cloak that has just billowed out in a gust of wind. There's a bit, not far from the barge choked canal, that I really like. Because of the way part of it has cracked, it looks like one bit of yellow runs under another bit and comes out on the other side. The closest thing I can compare it to is a thumb over two fingers. Very cool! I like this a lot.

I enjoy your 'occasional series of distressed road markings' because sometimes I see things in the irregular blotches!
