Description
Siggi’s hut was small and windowless and made of wood and sod so it would probably sell for $400,000US in New York City or London. You know, affordable housing. One of our group asked what fuel was used in the fire pit in the center of the room. Siggi revealed a rather mischievous sense of humor when he replied, “We use a traditional Viking fuel we call propane.”
At one point during his presentation Siggi passed around replicas of Viking weapons. We were able to handle a sword, shield and helmet. Some of us asked if Siggi would try on the items but we were unable to convince him. Instead he grabbed the hand of Brenda, a rather robust English woman. She modeled the ensemble with considerable good humor. If you look closely at the stone table in front of her you will see a can. I believe Pepsi is the ancient Norse word for mead.

What no windows ? despite the image of a warm fire - this would be a bit too chilly living for me ... but then again, it keeps the Pepsi-mead always fresh ! ;) I just don't know, why anyone would drink that stuff ? This trip must hold amazing memories for you, thank you Mark for sharing them here with us ... will there be a book coming out ? BB

Yeah, both Holm and Siggi took special care to make sure we knew that.

Cozy, if a bit dark. Still, one would get used to it, given how toasty warm it must be in there! It looks like you had a great time!

A really typical shot from your trips, showing a telling moment with the people you met, and them being in delight. Brenda looks great, like she's posing with that thing but having a big laugh that she's even doing it. Some of those weapons were scary as all hell. (Try showing up with one, to Thanksgiving dinner.) The propane story is great, and reminds me of the story I heard from a yogi: As a child, he saw an older yogi make fire in his mouth; not knowing how it was done, he ran to his master and said, "teach me to do it! I wanna learn!" So the master took him to a secluded place, told him to meditate, and then got his attention. The young yogi opened his eyes: "You gonna teach me to make fire like that???" The master said, "yes: Are you ready?" The youngster could barely stay seated. The master leaned forward and whispered in his ear: "Light a match..." (Moral: Don't mess with effects; you're here to learn love and wisdom...) Delightful story and upload, with those two people delighted on the left. I love the intense dark and light in the shot too. And btw, from all my researches, Pepsi WAS the ancient Norse word for mead---they also used "Dr. Pepper," but it wasn't as popular. (You ever taste real mead? I haven't, but am dying to know how it tastes. I did taste a drink from 800 AD---a replica of course (lol, "this is a little old, but trust me it's good")---which was made with a recipe from that time. I took a sip and It nearly burnt my mouth out! I couldn't freakin' believe it. If mead was anything like that, those dudes couldn't have gotten much sleep.) A delightful upload.
