Description
I took this just outside our front door. My wife noticed this beautifully colored bird sitting in the bark with one of our cats (Peanut, the killer) close by. We assume that Peanut had been stalking it & it seemed to be frozen there & in distress (though not obviously wounded). We grabbed the cat & put her inside, but the bird just stayed there & didn't move as we slowly approached. I grabbed my camera & took this picture from a few feet away. We left it there, hoping it would recover. I checked back every few minutes & finally, about 15 minutes later, was glad to see that it had flown away...

What a beautiful bird, great capture - good to hear it survived!

Very pretty birds, especially in full view. My friend in Oregon has them and when they hit the window sometimes it takes them an hour to recover. Glad yours survived its encounter and flew safely away.

Great shot of this beauty; I've only seen them once, at the botanical garden. Glad it flew away, but also glad it stayed long enough for you to get some shots!
