Boy, when Denise, one of our masters of plant and flower photography, calls something "that purple stalk-y thing," you know it's gotta be an unknown plant! I don't know what it is either, but I don't know many plant names period. It doesn't matter: The light here is beautiful, almost ephemeral; and a beautiful contrast when it's seen penetrating these ultra thick leaves (ie, the leaves being anything but ephemeral). There's a blue-ish tone to many of the upper edges (beautiful), and then a purple theme in the lower portion, including that purple stalk-y thing. And you did a great job bokeh-ing the background. From darkness to light---bottom to top---and what a beautiful play of shadow and light, ephemera and solidity, hard materiality and mystery. And btw, we don't grow things like this in Chicago---at least they're not native: This is definitely a warm climate plant. And that purple stalk-y thing looks like the cherry on top of a sundae (that is, a sundae for the plant world). Beautiful capture.

Great greens, and a beautiful light that makes them translucent
