Description
It’s been a little quiet this week since I lost someone near and dear to me, someone I had never met. Tonight I listened to an album for the first time in probably twenty years (yes I still have vinyl and a record player). The last track on the album is titled Grandpa Funk in which an old man looks back on his life from the year 2050.
On this track Robin Williams, although he didn’t know it, recorded his farewell to us.
“Take care of yourselves but one thing from me to you. Stay a little full goose bozo. Keep the spirit of madness in you. Just a little touch of it, just enough so you don’t become stupid. Just a little touch, just a little touch will keep you alive because no one in the world knows how to tax that. You know, there was an old crazy dude who used to live a long time ago. His name was Lord Buckley and he said a long time ago that people are kind of like flowers. It’s been a privilege walking in your garden. My love goes with you.”
Sometimes his work did not measure up to his best.
Sometimes he was just plain annoying but he was a truly kind person and I will miss him.

Very beautiful tribute to a wonderful and beautiful man. I think all of us, artists in our own right, will miss him even more than others as we have to delve into areas that non-artist fear to tread. nanu nanu!

He was much loved. I am rarely affected by the death of actors etc, but his is an exception.

This is the best tribute I've heard so far. Well written.

This is one of the better tributes I've read, and I can't say that his death had the same effect on me as the death of Octavia E. Butler (one of my favorite authors) and yet, it had an effect as the world is a lesser place, in some respects. This is a very well done tribute: it's succinct and it holds a measure of elegance that I really appreciate.
