Description
The Old Norse sagas speak of brave men and women such as Ingolfur Arnasson, Hallweig Frodottir, Erik the Red and Leif the Lucky. They crossed the frigid ocean to find a land of fire and ice. Now comes a tale of another intrepid explorer, Mark the Bald, also known as Mark the Clumsy. He and a small band of courageous adventurers had also crossed the frigid ocean to discover a land of fire and ice. This band was led by the Viking Warrior Princess Holmfridur Ran Sigvaldadottir under the experienced eye and steady hand of Adelsteinn the Navigator. But we are not here to tell tales of adventure but to show our appreciation to Holm for her patience and good cheer and Adelsteinn whose skill and steady hand kept us safe. Henceforth you shall no longer be known as Adelsteinn the Navigator but Adelsteinn, King of the Drivers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our group spent its last night together at a horse ranch which, oddly, did not seem to have any horses. At the farewell dinner I was drafted into saying a few words, some of which appear above. Why I was chosen I cannot say as I am not good with words. Last February the question of membership in the European Union was before the Icelandic Parliament. On our way back to Reykjavik we passed a Toyota dealership. The owner was quite clear about his feelings on the matter of membership. Iceland was accepted as an EU candidate member in 2010. As of August 2014 negotiations were still ongoing.
