Description

Sumac is any one of approximately 35 species of flowering plants in the genus Rhus. Sumacs grow in subtropical and temperate regions throughout the world and especially North America. Sumacs are shrubs and small trees that can reach a height of 3.3 to 32.8 feet (1 to 10 meters). The flowers are in dense spikes 2 to 11inches (5 to 30 cm) long, each flower very small, greenish, creamy white or red, with five petals. The fruits form dense clusters of reddish drupes called sumac bobs. Poison sumac can cause severe allergic reactions and a very itchy rash. Info from Wikipedia. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Nice shot of this impressive spike with a multitude of individual flowers. The only sumacs I remember seeing were on the east coast during the fall, where the leaves turned beautiful shades of orange & red...

A great capture! I watched a show, I THINK it was Andrew Zimmern and he visited Maine and showed different food sources and I thought that he was with one of the Native American tribes and the woman was cooking with sumac. I thought it was poison, but she showed how they harvested it, then dried it and used is in cooking. I'll have to look that show up!!! Great capture!! Love the color!

Its beautiful, Dana, like a candle in the night. In the past we had a Rhus too, which became nice red leafs in Autumn. I hope things are quiet with you, and there is nothing to worry about.
