Description

For some "mysterious" reason nobody wanted to cross that bridge with me! I spent the day at the Michigan Renaissance Festival, taking my newest character out for a spin. There's some adjustments that will need to be made, but overall it worked rather well. The reactions it got were fascinating, too. It ranged from people actually stopping dead in their tracks, to the "barker" for a both stopping in mid-bark to exclaim "Oh Wow!". And the cameras were everywhere. I'm still seeing cameras every time I close my eyes. Pretty much everything was my own work, only exceptions are the boots and the drinking horn. All of the rest I made myself.

Why wouldn't you cross the bridge with such a character? Haven't people heard of Pazuzu? Oh wait...wrong mythology, and he probably had a habit of peeing on bridges anyway, so maybe that explains something. But anyway, I love this new character and I really like the way his appearance is shaping up. The costume is amazing and it makes me wonder if being this character changes something in the way you perceive and present yourself in costume. Of course I can also see how you'd be a show stopper; I mean, you go for such a level of authenticity that one can't help but be impressed. This rocks. I love the costume/character. The mask is my favorite part.

It's funny you should make the observation about how I present myself. My friends who've been with me when I was putting one of my costumes on have said that I don't just put it on, but I "transform" my whole bearing and manner changes, depending upon the character. This one actually was fairly subtle changes in my manner, some have been very dramatic.

I can believe the aspect of the transformation and this scene also makes me quote a famous line: "Stop. Who approacheth the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see." Very good work

You have done an incredible job on your outfit, Mike! This is equal to anything WETA could come up with, my friend! It's evident the amount of work that went into this amazing creation. I can imagine how much attention it must have attracted.. Imagine jumping out from a dark alley in this as people walk by... You'd have 'em peeing themselves LOL! On second thought, you probably better not! LOL

Excellent work on this outfit...don't know why you would come across as intimidating...now where did I put my sword?

I would walk across the bridge with you in a heartbeat. That is a fabulous costume, and the way you carry it seems quite natural. The detail is incredible. It speaks of a lifetime of travel and wandering, of being paid or of taking tribute, of nights around the fire with uneasy strangers. This is a character to honor. SO well done!

The "grit and wear" aspect of this one really set me apart from all of the other costumed folk at this festival. One of the things that you notice about everyone who's wearing a costume at these is the "pristine" quality to their armor/clothing. Not that I'm criticizing, mind you, but nobody else to completely embraced the tattered and filthy look I was aiming for with this one.

You could always charge a toll for crossing the bridge. I bet people would pay. Very nicely done. Yeah, grit and wear, armor with dent and a little bit of rust, that makes things more "authentic"

Definitely one of your best! Even Floki would fear this one! He looks to have many spirit guardians and travelers with him. The mask reminds me of the desert people in "Dune". The mask seems to indicate living in a hostile environment, perhaps with noxious vapours either from swamps or perhaps volcanic hotspots where gases rise from heated waters or fumaroles~ So talented!

Awesome shot, what a great costume, this would make a great spooky movie character.
