Description
In 1942, Spain's Hispano Aviacion acquired the license to build Bf-109G2s from the Messerschmitt company. It turned out that because of it's own supply problems, Germany was in no position to supply Hispano with the necessary agreed upon engines, instruments, and airframes. In fact, some airframes were supplied without tail assemblies and full plans for the aircraft were not forthcoming.
Despite this situation, Hispano expediently set about redesigning the engine compartment to accomodate HA's own engine at first, and later, in the final iteration, the more powerful 1,600 hp Rolls Royce Merlin engine.
When the HA1112-M1L finally flew in service in 1954, it was outdated. Still, it fit Spain's low tech needs in policing and managing it's territories in Africa.
The 1112 was nicknamed "Buchon", the Spanish word for dove, an interesting choice for a warplane. I'm guessing that the low-slung and puffed out engine compartment design brought to mind a puffed up pigeon's crop. At least it wasn't called a total disaster. The "Buchon" served Spain until 1965, and the airworthy planes have served the movie industry afterwards in many a WW 2 movie.
"Buchon" HA1112-M1L: Another excellent model of a lesser known aircraft by the master, Pedro Caparros, generously available for free at sharecg. Thanks, Pedro!
Pilots: Free DoMus character outfitted with Tryphon's excellent RAF gear and Adh3d's helmet and goggles.

Nice render but what I liked about this the most was the history : )

Interesting! I'd not heard of this plane before. The tail and cockpit and classic 109 but the nose is much less angular and oddly like a spitfire, but not as clean. Excellent action image with a nice, stormy looking ocean.

Impeccable scene, as usual, I like it. As for the story, defined as "policing and managing it's territories in Africa" which was a conflict, or a small colonial war (War of Ifni) during 1957 to 1958 is a gentle way to say it. And indeed it was a low-tech war, with "buchons" bomber He-111 and Ju-52 transport. Against guns and camels. Spain already had F86 Sabre since 1955, but the United States vetoed use against Morocco, also his ally in the area. The latent conflict followed until 1969. The result: the war is won, but the colony was lost. As usual. Thank you very much for the mention.

The most famous film being, of course, Battle Of Britain, flown by Spanish pilot, and two still flying at Duxford, one in the movie colours! Great Render, neat looking FREE model from the master of rare aircraft! You've done a great job Rob
