My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

First, the landscape is beautiful. Almost like a dream scape. Next, maybe his wife was checking on the kindle to make sure his life insurance was paid up. Could be that she had attempted many times to "talk him off the ledge". And I agree. Watching this would be entertaining. I have seen movies made with less suspense than this. 😣

I don't know about him, but my knees would have been shaking in that position; maybe his were too, and the remote trigger was so that he wouldn't jiggle the camera while he was trembling? Maybe he was using an 8-stop ND filter to make the water look smooth, and was doing a long exposure, and needed it for that...no way to know for sure without talking to him, but saying anything might just cause him to stumble right. on. over. that. edge. It would be good to have a lasso to save his camera gear from certain destruction in that case! Or maybe his wife nailed his feet to the rock... What a great capture of life on the edge. Literally...

Great capture of him Tara! The things we do for that perfect image!!!

I read an article last summer or so of a two boys, three and six I believe, stand and watch their parents topple over a cliff and fall to their deaths. The parents did something similar to what this idiot on the cliff is doing. I've often thought of those two boys standing there, their parents gone, not really understanding what happened, only that their entire world is gone. This guy on the cliff pisses me off, and so does anyone that does stupid stuff like this that won't affect them in the slightest, they will be dead, they won't know.

I also think he should have taken many steps back in order to get his picture. :)))) His wife may have tryed to get him to step back, but he wouldn't listen so she just began to read her book. LOL!!! I am happy you all had a day of relaxation. :))))) Most excellent capture my friend. :))))) Thank you for sharing all of the beauty you see. :))))) Have fun and be safe. :))))) Start each day with a smile. :))))

Looks very much like he does have a Conkin Filter holder on his lens so probably doing a long exposure as someone else suggested. If I have the time I always shoot with a tripod, even in bright light. It does make a noticable difference in sharpness, but then I do not have steady hands anymore. My niece can shoot a full frame hand-held with great results but I am not 18 anymore. I do like the composition of your shot, with him being on the far right and looking into the picture. I also really like the softness that you brought in here to what was probably a pretty harch landscape.

I seen people do dumb stuff. I was at the Grand canyon and I saw one guy jump to an out rock that did not have a way to walk to so he jumped. He made it just to take a photo. Dumb to me. this guy the same way

you know, it's not really the fall that will kill him, but that damn sudden stop at the end that puts a crimp in your plans. maybe Darwin was looking the other way that day! Wonderful capture Tara

Well, when I saw the title, I thought sure you were describing me... Heh - been there and back.... However... Yeah.... I love a good POV as much as the next photog, but I don't think standing on the edge of a 400 foot drop is the most....uh.....prudent way to do it. I'm sure you can imagine Jo's reaction if I did something like this! And it wouldn't be reading a book on a Kindle, I'll tell you that. Of course now, if I want to get a shot like the one he's risking life and limb for, I've got a way to do it.... Phantom to the rescue! LOL This really is a fun and well composed photo, Tara. As Roxy noted, giving the photographer plenty of room on the left really adds to the drama of this shot.

Well, it seems somewhat risky, but relatively speaking, compared to some of the outrageous behaviors that people engage in, it seems fairly mild to me. Assuming he has good eyesight, good balance & good judgment, it seems like he could do this carefully & stay safe. I've been on the edges of cliffs where my wife has thought I was engaging in risky behavior, but where I knew I was safe. In any case, I do like this photo a lot...

I've gone down some pretty scary steps, paths and roads, but a cliff--nope, there are limits and he's just too dang close!! Great shot though; nice of him to do that for you!! And, nothing like a good book!!!!

Perhaps she was planning on using the Kindle to knock him over the edge but knew you were watching, ha ha. I've seen far worse, and photographed it too, wondering if I was about to watch someone die. Wherever the edge and no matter the danger, there are numerous people driven to stand where the danger is highest. But really, one could fall off a ladder and kill yourself too so the overall height is not the issue. The issue is why some choose to put their life at risk. I remember an Alberta Fire department rescue team asking me to use their camera to snap all of them standing on a wet rock right beside the top of a 120' waterfall. No one else anywhere nearby could have rescued them. Made me nervous as hell.

This is a great shot of this stupid fellow - perhaps his name is Cliff and he was born in the Fall !! I enjoyed reading about your progress so far.

The photograph is both beautiful and compelling, and as I look I almost expect him to slip and topple in slo-mo. He is very lucky to retain a spouse: I could not cohabit with anyone so incredibly selfish! I'm reading 'Untold Stories' by Alan Bennett , wonderful.

you captured this dare-devil superbly

Just cutting edge technology.

Awesome capture and tale of this crazy fellow. My ex was that bad and I harped at him all the time for it. I think people like this live for the scare of it to others, which, I gave up, lol, because, it just was not worst it...:)))

Its the challenge Tara and it looks like you are pretty close yourself. BTW, are you guys on the road yet? I will call soon!

thats a perfect pic, he did it for you Tara!!! :-) sometimes i look for the challenge too, a little bit closer, a step more, get wet shoes or falling on my nose.. I just love this ..

Great photo!

Amusing picture ! In september in USA, I was reading "Dome" of Stephen King, "Monument Men" of Edsel Robert M., and a french book on Proust.

Wonderful capture. I would have not done this as my fear of heights makes my toes tingle.. even just looking at this photo makes me feel like I am going to fall over :)
kgb224
I agree with you Tara we really do not need to take such risks. Superb capture. God bless.

That looks just a little TOO close to the edge!! And, looking through his viewfinder he can't really gauge distance regarding the edge! Dangerous? I think! God shot Rob
