WOW! Exciting news about the gallery showing! Not so good news about the fire/water damage! I am glad you're safe though. Now, as for this image! There's so much to love, and I really like the treatment of this image. Vertical lift bridges are always so fun to look at. 3 remain in the Chicago area but I've only been able to photograph 2 of them. I don't even remember where the third one is. Oh well. This is a gorgeous image and it's something I could spend hours studying. There are so many details and the sense of vast space is really quite impressive. As a friend of mine once said: "They don't do things small in Russia, do they?" This is really marvelous and I love the news of an exhibit also! WOW! I'm all happy over here!

I do like the industrial look, it almost has be a Steam-punk feel to it - with that sepia effect ... have never known a bridge with railroad tracks to lift - a first for me ! PS - sorry, to read all the drama with the water damage, from fire and consequently floods, glad you are well, despite those shortcomings ... and another thought - I really enjoyed the trip through memory-lane, of your exhibition - I found it very 'organic' and down to Earth, but brilliant - as always Nikolay - KUDOS ! BTW - my favourite still-life has to be the table, with the tablecloth and coffee-cups ... ;- ))

I'm sorry to hear of the water damage! I had about one inch of water in my house many years ago and had to move everything out, get a hotel, wait, dry it out, repair, move back in ... it was an amazing amount of time and energy and work! So glad to hear you're okay, and it's just "things" that were damaged. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the video of the images you put in your exhibition. Some are old friends, some I'd not seen, or saw again with new eyes. I particularly liked the mirror shot of the table with only coats on chairs. I'm sure I have a picture of those same four coats walking down the street in Chicago, but with men in them. :P Congratulations on exhibiting your work! You produce such brilliant, memorable images, and deserve all the recognition in the world. The gritty feeling of this railroad bridge picture is wonderfully moody. I like the desaturation. Good to see you, my friend, no matter how seldom or often you appear. :)

I just watched your wonderful video. As Tara remarked, some old friends which in this context are very moving. You continue to be a great inspiration to me, Nikolay, long may it continue. This image is very melancholic, I don't know why! But I like it very much, in spite of the feelings it evokes in me.

I remember the fire, I just didn't remember which image it was associated with (I see everything, even when I'm not commenting), and I'm sorry I didn't say something sooner because I had a fire above me a few years back, and the water was everywhere. (And the repair---in our high rise---took months, of pounding and sawing, etc. No one was hurt, luckily.) As for your gallery show, I'd heard it was coming, maybe from you, maybe from others, but I never saw the link until now. (I don't know why I didn't see it earlier, but I'm very glad it's still there.) Like tara says, some new friends, lots of old friends among those images, and a reminder of the range of your inner eye and the soul that you convey. Congratulations, and I wish you many more, Nikolay. You're an exceptional artist who crosses boundaries constantly, and brings much soul to everything he does. This image is a wonderful reworking...the bleached reddish-rust tones fit the industrial sense of the sight; the dark lines are perfect for the train tracks and poles and all that machinery-like stuff on the left. The composition takes us through the roadway into a great bright washed out sky. And it feels like a print of an industrial mood, descended upon a big city. The graphic nature of the piece is pronounced, and it's terrific.

I am sorry to hear about the fire and subsequent water damage - but as you said - you survived. This is a fantastic capture of the urban/industrial type setting. great atmosphere.
