Description
The Red-bellied Woodpecker is common to the Eastern part of the United States. The male has a full red head, the female only has red on the back part of her head.
This male here prefers the dead trees across the street on the next block. I haven't seen him in the live trees in my yard. It's impossible to sneak up on him, so these two cropped shots were combined.

Even though I lived in the States, I have never seen one of these guys in the flesh. Then again, I am probably yet to see most of the Aussie birds too!!!!!!!!!

Superior job of blending together these two colorful images of the pretty little Woodpecker, shown here at work, tirelessly decimating the dead limb, Maria. I thought at first you had captured two separate birds working in tandem.

They have very striking plumage! Two excellent shots!

A double incredible photo. I can hear them in my area but no sightings yet. We are not allowed to have bird feeders in the complex that we live in!
