Description
One of four antler arches situated at the four corners of the town square in Jackson, Wyoming, which is just south of the entrance to Grand Teton National Park. Each arch is constructed out of about 2,000 elk antlers. The National Elk Refuge is located just a mile out of town & elk shed their antlers every year, so no animals are harmed to create these arches.
For those interested in my Bryce art, I just posted a new image this morning here...

I should love to find just one set of antlers, of course they would be deer here.

Have been here and walked through the several arches around the square. Brings back memories and this is a better shot than I managed.

Our ancestors would have made lots of tools from those... Fascinating shot!

Astonishing! Being from a place with a lot of really big maple trees, I have to wonder about autumn leaves getting stuck all over those arches. They look totally clean though, so i guess it all works out okay there! Nice shot. You make me feel like I'm there!

That is stunning! My uncle makes chandeliers from antlers and sells them for quite a hefty price!

I've seen those arches on a driving trip through the west in 1985. If I remember correctly, there was also a huge antler arch spanning the road entering the town of Jackson, Wyoming that cars drove under when driving into the town. Is it still there?

I don't remember driving under an antler arch, but maybe there's more than one way to enter town?

Well that's something I don't see everyday...or EVER!

My father had two elk antlers on display when I was a kid. Knowing how large they are makes the size of this arch even more impressive. Interesting shot!

It's great to hear that no animals have been harmed in the process. Too many times I find that many 'aesthetically' pleasing things are at the cost of animals. This is ever so neat though! What a fantastic effect, and would make for some really cool background pictures! Neat!

The stun of the sight aside, your treatment of it makes the antlers feel as if they have light inside them. It's subtle, but it's there. They really do glow or stand out. And the bases---stone and mortar---have a deep reddish glow, a hue you show many ways in your work. It's very warm and passionate, and it sets off the bright bleached hues of the antlers. The background is, of course, beautiful, but it is prelude---from behind---to those antlers. They really do have clarity and glow. You made an easily gimmick-looking sight feel like a coagulation of lights and living forces. Beautiful work Claude.
