Description
This is for Corey (CoreyBlack), who has a birthday today! Happy Birthday!!!
I can't explain why I did this drawing - it just felt right.
It's got Frank Lloyd Wright---who started out in Corey's hometown (Chicago).
And I tried to capture Wright's freshness---his 'newness'---which I so often feel in Corey's work.
And a dog in 'wonder', for the wonder that we all feel in Corey (he's a sheer delight).
And it's a dream...
Corey's work is so honest! (Fans---don't you agree?) It's just such honest photography. And Corey's a delight, a big talent, he writes (with really funny stuff right alongside the serious), and did acting and probably can dance on Lake Michigan...he's a natural wholly engaging delightful human being. And those of us who know his art just love it.
I wish you a terrific birthday, Corey! And a new year filled with total health---which you deserve---and joy! You deserve them all! Peace and blessings to you from all wonderful places, and inspiration without any limits ...
Mark

Mark, I love your "cartoons". You nail the character with just a few lines, something I would give anything to be able to do! I do so admire good characterizations. This? Perfect. Absolutely perfect!

I just spoke with Corey a few minutes ago and now I see this and it's perfect! I love your doodles and your doggie cartoons bring back memories of the very first ones I saw, when I was way over in the middle of a courtyard in Prague, listening to Czech stuff. Not only does this bring back great memories, but it makes them too, especially since there a contemplative dog (probably thinking what Andrea says he's thinking.) I love it. I'm pressed for time as I have a whole lotta stuff to do, but I wanted to let you know that I saw and love this!

Mark, you did a splendid job on this fun and thoughtful birthday dedication for your friend. You're ideas are always so original and well thought out, and each one contains a light hearted way of looking at life. You have no idea what a blessing you are to so many around you, trust me. By the way I think it is safe to assume that you have a great love for dogs considering the number them that have been featured in your art over the years.

Oh man, this is just SO great; I love it. First you see those lines and think it's some kind of blueprint. Then you see the dog and I don't know about anyone else, but it cracked me up!! A wonderful gift for Corey!!

I love this! The lines are perfect, and are absolutely evocative of FLW. I know you studied this stuff, and if all you got out of it was the ability to make art like THIS, it was worth the time and trouble! And the dog is a wonderful counterpoint to the architecture in feel and tone. Round vs straight, and silly vs dead serious. (FLW didn't seem like a playful sort to me ... the dog is like a message across time that says, "lighten up!") LOVE it!!

I like a doggie who can appreciate good architecture. Or is he perhaps wondering where the kitchen is? A delightful, humorous, and very creative work, Mark. And such a fun B-day image for Corey.

Why thank you, Mark, you always say the nicest things about me! You're a pretty groovy guy yourself and I'm very fond of you and your work as well. Too bad we don't get to see more of each other since we live in the same town. Love this! I imagine the dog is contemplating where his food would be located within the house by main location, and all the other secret locations that would follow. He's probably also wondering how tall the doggie door will be, and what the" kibbles" are made of in Kibbles and Bits. This is a wonderfully funny birthday present. Thank you, Mark!
