Description

Dave Na'e Teves has a gallery on Rederosity under the name punaguy. Most of the images are of his home on the big island of Hawaii. Seascapes, crashing waves, rainbows, lush valleys, flowers and birds, all of it stunning work. About eleven months ago he posted an image of the night sky near his home; http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2490296&user_id=287364&member&np I wrote and asked him how he had taken such a superb image. He very graciously gave me my first lesson in shooting the Milky Way. Last June Dave passed away and we lost one of our best. While in Monument Valley, using what I had learned from him, I took this image. I only regret I couldn’t show it to him. This one is for you, Dave. Thanks for the instruction and the inspiration.

Amazing night sky - a magical image. I'm just wondering what might have caused that diagonal line about halfway up on the left?

I figured it was either a meteorite or a plane. There were a few of these lines in the pictures I took and I didn't think Monument Valley was under a flight path for commercial airlines, but who knows?

There can be no better tribute to that fantastic photographer. A truly astonishing photo. The night sky is light polluted where I live, but it was not so when I was a child, and this brings such memories.

That is absolutely stunning! It's amazing what can be done with modern cameras. I'm sure Dave is smiling down on this one. That streak would be an aircraft - the precise spacing of the pulses will be the anti-collision strobes. It could be a private aircraft, or possibly military. A satellite will be a streak with a constant unchanging level of light.

It's always sad to read someone had passed on ;( but look on the bright side and the great outcome here, he passed something on to you and we are witness to it ! I would have also picked it for a Satellite ... ? BB
