Description
The first time I saw Carol's art (romanceworks), I was struck by her deep passions, her leaps and plunges into the energies inside of things, holding onto love in all its forms as if onto a mile-high fountain...her art was from 'familiar' things---animals, flowers, etc---but it's what she did with them that hit me so hard.
Mind you, you can enjoy her work as animals, flowers, etc---she's terrific at them: But her strokes, her energies and hues, her gentle forms and sweeps, and darks and lights and power...they gave me the feeling of a big, big heart inside it all...
And she's real: Her background (including 2 Artist of the Months, gallery shows, works in many collections, a degree in traditional art as well as years in commercial design, editing, writing, etc) is only brought-up when she has to, to explain a job, explain why she's tired, etc. She just talks of the human side of her work, of letting it 'teach' her, or 'letting the work go'; and the day to day of the creative life, with its surges and flashes in the night...and she's been so honest, even online, about her husband's passing, or her beloved friends, about caring for people, her pets, her life...she's so real, and a delight. I so appreciate that!
So when her birthday comes, I want to send a big dance her way with all those cosmic flowers or fairy-tale scenes, or her dream catchers and meditation-paintings and so on...
I'm 2 days late, Carol, but I made a "Pacific Northwest Totem"---sort of---then morphed it into a glowing Ritual Lodge. (I hope I'm close!) Because I wanted to catch some of the myth and energies I feel from your life. And with it I say, have the wonderful-est birthday possible! And a wonderful holiday with family and friends, and a continued dance through the canyons-and-peaks of life--while you make those fountains your Offering. With love and admiration from your friend 'down the mountain'...just know that you're a joy and inspiration to know!
Happy Birthday!!!
Mark

A beautiful totem, sort of squished into another dimension, and maybe merged with a column of watery layers...a lovely creation indeed!!!

I love the wood-block-print-style background, the way it appears and then flips. It moves the mood from light and airy to rich and full, in an absolutely effortless progression. A beautiful gift for your friend!

Mark, this birthday dedication for Carol is so well done and one that she most certainly will never forget. Carol is one of those rare talents how manages to express herself in a beautiful way through her art that few can rival. Not only is she one of the most talented artists in the gallery, but like yourself she is one of the most caring and kind people here. Her work just like yours is an inspiration to so many and thankfully is out there to lift the spirits of common folk like myself. That is what makes this amazing "Pacific Northwest Totem" you created all the most special as it is an expressive work of art just like Carol's, and is filled with the magical energy that seems to permeate all of her art.

First, Mark, thank you for being my soul-friend, and sharing in this cosmic and karmic journey we are on, through time, space, emotions and energies. These dedication words, as all your words do, touch my heart in such a special way. I love seeing myself, as well as my art, through your eyes and vision, as I always gain a new perspective that takes me to places I want to explore and experience, personally and artistically. I love sharing who I am and what I am feeling with you, because you get me on so many levels. This is a gift you give to me and many others. You really do look and listen and care with an energy that few are able or willing to give. You communicate with your unique vision, your scholarly and inner wisdom, your very human sense of humor, your humble gratitude, your creative passion in writing, music, and art, and mostly, the light and love in your heart. You see and celebrate the many human and spirit levels of a person. There is certainly all that in the artwork you have created for me. I see unicorns, oceans flowers, moons, and so much more, all dancing within this majestic totem of karmic colors and energies. To me, this is a totem of life, from the dark red enveloping protection of the womb, the lodge, through all the saturated layers of living and learning, and loss, too, and finally to the top, where the energy changes and lightens as it rises, becoming wisps, like spirit birds, flying with such freedom. Thank you, Mark, for honoring my birthday, and my journey of the spirit with your beautiful dedication and artwork. This, and you, are very special gifts.
