Description

This is a photo taken on a trail that's about 10 minutes from my house that's called the Enchanted Forest Trail. I took this photo almost exactly 11 years (1/2/2004) & 3 cameras ago & first posted it here at that time, but in my other Renderosity gallery (eyeland). At the time, I posted it with no postwork at all & was pretty happy with it, but this time I went back to the original & attempted to improve it. Was I successful? Have I learned anything useful about postworking photos in the last 11 years? I like to think so, but I may not be the best judge. For anyone who may be interested in comparing the two, here's a link to the first posting. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas & a very happy & healthy holiday season...

I like them both and I can see why you brightened it, but the original gives me a feel of what it must be like We hardly ever get much snow here.

I think this version has a bit more of a cold bite to it Claude, it is a super shot and holds a mystery of what lays beyond.

I like this brighter version, as well. The other one needs a little "punch" to really stand out. This does it!

This one has better contrast. With the other one the flat light created a flat image; here you have a greater sense of depth of composition. Perhaps the other one captured the dull mood better whereas this one is more vibrant, if you can use that term in a black and white image.

This is by far the better posting Claude - I like the depth in this version! A sharper version also! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas plus a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!

(the bad comic in me can't resist saying something like, "I can't stand either of them!" but I won't say that, since it's not funny in the least, and totally not true...) I love them both, Claude. Yes the earlier version is grayer/quieter, but it gives a very plaintive feeling, which I'm sure is how it feels to be there. I understand how people would prefer the new one, when put side by side; but I didn't zoom this one until I'd zoomed that, and I really liked the feel of the older one when I zoomed it... But here, you haven't just emphasized the whites to where this borders on graphic-print (with such high contrasts): You've softened the tree tops and edges so that it feels 'dissolved' by the snow---something anyone who's been in snowfall understands. And the composition is about a fluffy depression in nature's bedding, which invites us to walk in it. Fine high-key treatment of an already well-composed shot; with the mood of lush winter, untouched by human hands.

I like both very much, but I think the first looks more eeh.. "true" kind of.
