Description

Yesterday, we went up to the Rogue River Gorge at Union Creek with a couple of friends. The Rogue River gushes powerfully through a narrow gorge of basalt lava here. I posted a photo almost a year ago from this same spot, except that there was a dusting of snow at that time. Although this is not a standard viewing spot (I had to walk a little ways off the beaten oath to include those moss-covered rocks in the shot), I unintentionally ended up taking exactly the same photo (I didn't realize it until I got home & compared the two). I like the one with the snow better, but I like this one as well... Please zoom.

Those rocks are wonderful. Whatever trouble you went to off the beaten path, it was worth it. Terrific!

Well you can't compare them 'too' closely, because the snow transforms the shot completely, it's a completely different shot. This one is awash in deep yellows and yellow-greens in the moss; and the yellows on the trees feel like a thick plush coat. And your choice of pov is very expressive---kudos for seeking it out, and even taking some risk if risk was involved. I'm sure you know that Monet did several paintings of the same sights, in different light each time, to get the massive differences in appearance. This post is in that mold, and I love that you've done it. (You did it with the "Enchanted Forest" too, only there it was the same shot with different postwork.) The yellows on each side really blanket that river for us. Beautiful shot Claude, as is the snowy one before it.

The moss makes this shot, as the snow made the other; it is two moods of the same spot, and both are equally lovely! Wonderful capture, the textures of the moss are so inviting!

The snow and the frosted trees are beautiful as is the green moss and all of the green trees. Love that rip roaring river!
